Chair Yoga class practising Parighasana 'Gate Pose' with the support of a chair

Friday Feeling

Chair Yoga is a gentle, adapted style that uses a chair for support when seated or standing. It’s accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and especially supportive for those recovering from injury, surgery, or living with long-term health conditions. Regular practice can bring many benefits, including increased flexibility and strength, improved balance, and a greater sense of calm and wellbeing.

A typical class begins with grounding and gentle warm-ups, before moving into a variety of seated and standing postures. Sessions then wind down with relaxation or guided meditation. Practices may also include mudras (hand gestures), pranayama (breathing techniques), oracle card readings, and reflection on planetary and seasonal changes, each helping to deepen awareness and connection within.

The magic of this practice often continues long after we’ve folded our chairs. Our Chair Yoga family has grown into something truly special, with students often organising their own social get-togethers. Beyond the physical movement, it’s a space filled with friendship, laughter, and genuine connection, reminding us that the journey of wellbeing is always better when shared.

Chair Yoga has helped me cope with my many health issues, improving my balance, flexibility and strength. The meditation and relaxation plus breathing techniques which we learn have aided me in dealing with constant pain, reducing the need for painkillers. Rina is such a kind and caring teacher, gently encouraging us to do the best we can within our own capacity and without judgement.”
